Supporting Literacy & Numeracy

Wednesday 19th November, 9.00 am - 3.00 pm

DSC Hub, Denton Drive, Northwich CW9 7LU

Reading is often a relative strength for children with Down syndrome. Being read to regularly and engaging with reading activities from an early age can significantly enhance their spoken language and memory skills. In this session, we will explore effective strategies and resources that support reading development. We will look at how a whole-word approach to reading can support a child with DS and how phonics instruction can be introduced as their skills develop.

Numeracy, on the other hand, can be more challenging. It involves abstract thinking, which many children with Down syndrome find difficult. However, numeracy skills are crucial for future independence and everyday life. We will look at how numeracy skills can be supported using visual resources and what tools are available to help you assess and monitor progress.

The course fee is £25 per delegate and payment is required in advance. If you are a school and need an invoice prior to making payment, please contact us.
